Pitch Ideas

Our group had a meeting today about our ideas for the pitches on Monday. We had a number of ideas that we could use but we managed to narrow it down to two so that we could start planning our pitch.

Idea Number 1 - Jayden

We looked on the 'Liverpool Echo' website and found a really interesting article about an 8 month old boy, Jayden, with a very rare type of cancer and his mum's struggle to try to raise awareness. The treatment for this strand of cancer is only available in France, therefore Jayden's mum, Eleanor, and family friends are trying to raise money to send Jayden to France to get his treatment.

This would be a very interesting piece to make our documentary on as we would not only be creating a film for this project, but we may also be able to help make a difference by helping Eleanor raise awareness, and therefore funds, for Jayden's condiditon.

As we are only in the planning stage of our documentary at this point, we have not made contact with Eleanor, however we think she may be willing to be the subject of our documentary as the article in the Echo was titled 'Liverpool mum asks readers to help save her son's life'.

We are very confident that this piece would make an interesting film and could possibly help Eleanor raise funds for Jayden's treatment, therefore if this is the chosen pitch, we are very excited to start this project.

Idea Number 2 - One Question

This idea is very different to the first as it would not just follow one person/family. This idea consists of us going out onto the streets of Liverpool and asking the members of public one question and then making a compilation of their different answers. We figured the question should be about their past or memories as then this means that it will be applicable to everyone, therefore everyone we ask would be able to provide an answer.

The main inspiration we got from this piece was from a series of films called 'Fifty People One Question'. The theme of the documentary is pretty self-explanitory, fifty people are asked one question and then all of the different answers are put together to create the film. There are lots of these films as the director of the original urged other filmmakers to make their own version in different cities asking different questions. Therefore, we thought it might be a good idea for us to do a similar sort of thing.
